Writing a poem is not that difficult, even if many people think the opposite is true. In fact, writing a poem consists in: PLAYING WITH WORDS PLAYING WITH SOUNDS to express emotions, feelings, to describe nature or anything you are interested in…! Here are some “rules” you can refer to: 1 CHOOSE the subject you wish to talk about (concerning your problems or whatever you have an interest in); 2 WRITE on a paper all your ideas concerning the subject, in the way they come to your mind; 3 WAIT a few days…than reconsider your ideas: ELIMINATE what you think is useless and START WRITING, giving an order to your ideas and concepts; 4 “SAVE” your words (remember that poetry is not an essay!); without changing the meaning of what you wish to express, ELIMINATE the articles, the adjectives, the pronouns and the verbs that are superfluous (you have therefore to reed your text over and over and play with words); 5 Try to give a RHYTHM, a SOUND and MUSICALITY to your words (using “rimes” is not compulsory). Here is an example: Initial drafting “We heard a meow and hidden between the bushes there was a little kitten” Final drafting “We heard between the bushes a little kitten” SO NOW IT IS YOUR TURN!
